Building a Bulgarian Playground
Local team gives time for free to bring delight to disadvantaged children.
Two weeks of hard labour and sleeping in an orphanage school's gymnasium may not be everyone's idea of a holiday. For Peter Jackson and The Trussell Trust's Neil Emery and Chris Graham, however, volunteering to build an adventure playground for orphaned or abandoned children in Bulgaria was worth it when they saw the children's grins.
The Trussell Trust was delighted when they received a call out of the blue from Peter Jackson of MD Hydraulics, Swindon, asking if they'd like him to donate and build a playground at Lipnitza School. Salisbury charity, The Trussell Trust, has been partnering with Lipnitza Residential School since 1997 and has helped transformed conditions there. For the children, an adventure playground was a dream come true. They could not contain their excitement when it was being built and even wanted to help.
The official launch on Monday 26th May was a huge celebration. The children have just finished their exams and the playground gave them the perfect opportunity to party.
"We're immensely grateful to Peter for such an amazing gift! These kids have been through so much and have so little, so it's great to be able to give them something that's just for them. This playground is a gift that shows such care, attention and love. It's made such a difference and will continue to do so. It really is restoring their dignity and reviving hope."
